Because I'm irritated...

...and this is the best place to vent that.

I'm irritated by people who pretend to be offering a rational argument about something they don't like, while they are in fact irrationally and ignorantly hostile to it, have never open mindedly examined it, know nothing of it, wish to know nothing of it and use as evidence against it the random opinions of other uninformed foes. How can you ever hope to comprehend something or someone when all you feel toward it is contempt based on no actual information, something you can't be bothered to learn about but can only be bothered to mock? How can you stand back and accept only misinformation and propaganda from admitted foes of something and pretend you have anything like a rational opinion about it?

Hm. I don't feel much better.

...you know, I have no problem with a person who honestly goes "Ick! Slash. I just ... ick." Because they're acknowledging it's an emotional reaction, which we're all allowed. I don't even have a problem with a person shrugging and going "Sorry, don't see it at all." Because they're simply saying they don't draw those conclusions from canon (which is also fine). But when people who have never even read what you're discussing proceed to bash it -- when it's clear that their reaction is emotional but that they're trying to cloak it in rational argument -- and when they do that with such a tone of condescension -- well, it gets my goat and the goat's whole family. Grrrr...just admit it makes you go "ick" without trying to make slashers look like a bunch of idiot porno freaks (or we'll send the idiot porno freak segment out to get you *g*).

Twice in the same week, I'd say he makes a habit of putting his foot in his mouth and then getting upset when people ask him what it tastes like. What an ass.
