I was thinking ... if there is some ownership issue that's holding up the DVDs - why the hell was it possible to put out videos? Surely the same constraints would have applied, yet we got 22 videotapes.

Now I'm a trifle irate, as I always get when thinking about this. What, are they waiting for their prime fucking audience to DIE? Morons! We're here, we have disposable income! Get with the friggin' program already!

Thanks. I feel better now. Not much, but better.

What, are they waiting for their prime fucking audience to DIE?

My theory is that they are waiting for Norman to die. Then, they'll buy up whatever leftover rights there are from his heirs and be able to do anything they want.

But Norman is still in good health, so we may be waiting a bit longer.

Well, how come Norman's not allowing it, if that's the problem? Doesn't he want his creations out where people can appreciate them?

It is not that Norman is not allowing it. He's always pleased when it's released on DVD or video because that's income for him.

Of course, sometimes Warners doesn't even tell him. When the DVD's came out in Europe for example, I told him and he sicced his lawyer on them.

Right now, from what I gather, the rights to the show are very tangled. There are reasons for this, some I understand and some I don't.

But remember that Norman has never owned the whole thing, just a piece. And whomever owns the other piece has changed over the years (one reason for the complications).

As I said, my belief is that Warners is waiting until Norman is out of the way.

They're theorizing that the profits they'll have to hand over to him will be too high? Well, if they wait 'til everyone who remembers the show is too old or dead to buy it, a percentage of nothing is nothing too.

Grrr....

I don't think it has so much to do with profits but creative control ---but that's pure guesswork.

Bottom line: no one in Hollywood has ever figured out what to do with the thing and I doubt they ever will. I think there is definitely an answer, but you'd have to understand and watch the series first.

And you know how this works.

What the hell? We have the fandom and our fanfic. MFU lives. In the end, we don't need their stinkin' DVDs.

I hadn't thought about the fact that they managed to release some episodes on videotape. Good question. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we'll ever get an answer. It really is getting to be quite annoying, especially when you see what shows they have managed to release onto DVD.

That's the frustrating thing. There may be a very good reason (although I doubt most of us would think it's all that good), but with no one willing to be honest, how can we know? Then again, the fact that no one's willing to be honest strongly suggests the reasons are so embarrassingly stupid they don't want them known. If that one chick (whose name escapes me) who came around posting on the lists bragging in semi-literate phrases about her ownership and plans is any example of the people in charge of this, no wonder it's a complete fuck up.
