30 Day Fandom Meme Day 16

Day 16 – Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
Hate ‘em. Skip ‘em when possible. If I can’t, I come up with a one-line plot description, rather than an obscure quote or something trying to be clever or artsy (nothin' agin that when it works - I just can't do it well).

I have to admit, a bad or boring summary will make me dawdle before reading a specific story. What I do now, when it's necessary, is use a one or two sentence quote from the story for the summary. I kind of like the effect.

Second try with good html

Interesting. [livejournal.com profile] graculus uses the same method. I find it unsatisfying personally; I don't mind when others use it - but then I don't know that I really feel a need to have a story summarized before reading it, so that probably colors my perception.
