Day 26 – What is the oddest (or funniest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
Nothing funny or odd; the closest to “odd” (as in out of my own “ordinary”) might’ve been the geographical research I did for “Rainbow” and “Half Truths” or the laser research for “Anything.”

Do you do your research ahead of time, or after you've started writing?

Generally what happens is I've kind of started the story and as the plot takes shape in my mind (as with Rainbow or Anything) I realize I need to know more to make certain scenes realistic. So I do the research, to an extent, while I'm writing, if not while writing those precise scenes. It saves time to know specifically what you need - as with researching Kiev for Half Truths; there were particular areas I needed to know about to advance the story, so I focused on those.

Mind you, I can't say how persuasive my research was, but it was fun to do, and to try to be accurate.
