I'm always amused when fen get into a vast and righteous uproar about plagiarism. Not that there isn't a difference between writing a fanfic and posting someone else's story under your name, but when they go off about how stealing someone else's creative work without their permission is such a felonious deed, worthy of drawing and quartering at least, I can't help chuckling a bit.

Has someone been complaining about this sort of thing lately?

Well, it's in the other fandom, you know, where I'm cheating. :) But the point applies here, too. Someone actually claims they've written a fanfic they haven't, and a bunch of people jump on the bandwagon to say (among many worthy and reasonable things) stuff like "anyone who takes someone else's work without asking is EVIL and should DIE!"
I just find myself thinking "and you asked the author before writing this fanfic?" I mean, as I said, I understand the point and the difference, but when people get deeply upset at the concept of a person using another person's creative work without asking ... er ... hello? Fanfic, anyone?
